This Breast Cancer Awareness Month, I'm hosting a Pink Bloom Party to support others facing breast cancer
In January 2018, I was diagnosed with breast cancer following a routine mammogram. I had chemo, radiation, targeted therapy, took part in a clinical trial for a promising drug, and had a mastectomy. I worked full time throughout all my treatments and I remained very well, despite the treatment trauma my body endured!
In March 2025, my oncologist told me that my next 6 monthly visit would be my last as I was well with no evidence of disease. My appointment was made for the 13th November. I was excited yet trepidatious about being discharged after 8 years on my journey with breast cancer!
On the 31st October, after a routine scan for a persistent sore ear, my GP called and told me that the scan showed I had a mass in my brain.
I saw a neurosurgeon on the 3rd November and was admitted to hospital on the 4th, for surgery on the 6th to remove a brain tumour!
On the 12th November - the day before my original appointment with the oncologist to be discharged from the Cancer Care Unit, I was told that the brain tumour was metastatic breast cancer!
My journey with breast cancer was NOT over!
I saw my oncologist a week later and have had radiation, chemo and targeted therapy (ongoing while ever it is working).
So I am very committed to doing all I can to help continue research into breast cancer so that one day, no one has to walk this road!
